Scan your menu with AI
The AI scan is the fastest way to get your menu online. Snap a photo of your printed or laminated menu and AI extracts every item, price and option into a draft you review before anything goes live.
Open the scanner
Go to Menu and tap "Scan with AI". It is the first, highlighted chip in the row under the Menu title (on a phone, the row scrolls sideways). The scanner works the same in the KioSnap Vendor app and on the dashboard. (New store with an empty menu? The setup checklist on your dashboard has a "Scan a photo" shortcut too.)
Add your menu photos
Take a clear photo of your printed menu, straight on and in good light, then add it with "From gallery" (or "Photograph it" on a phone). Multi-page menu? Add every page, up to 5 per scan. They're scanned together. No menu card handy? Switch from "Photos" to the "Typed" tab and paste or type your menu as plain text instead.
Start the scan and wait a minute
Tap the button at the bottom ("Read 2 photos", or "Read this menu" for typed text). The AI reads dishes, prices, categories and options. This usually takes under a minute, and nothing goes live without your approval. You can leave the page while it works: the draft is waiting under "Recent scans" when you come back.
Review the draft
Open the finished scan from "Recent scans". You get every extracted item grouped by category, and every row starts ticked. Fix prices, rename things, remove anything wrong, or open an item to add a description, offer price or sizes. To move an item to another category, open it and pick the category it belongs under. Anything the AI wasn't sure about is listed under "Check these before you add them".
Add the items to your menu
Untick anything you don't want, then tap "Add N to my menu" (N is how many rows are ticked) and confirm with "Add them". The items go live on your storefront within about a minute, and you land back on the scanner. Open Menu to see them. Not finished reviewing? "Save draft" keeps your edits waiting for you.
Good to know
- Paid plans include 3 scans a month, renewed on the 1st. A scan counts as soon as it starts, even if you close the draft without adding anything, but a failed scan never counts.
- Shoot straight-on in good light, and avoid glare on laminated menus. The clearer the photo, the better the extraction.
- If the scan finds more items or categories than your plan allows, nothing is lost: a note says "Untick N to fit your plan", you add what fits now, and the rest stay saved in the draft.
Common questions
What if the AI gets something wrong?
You always review the draft before publishing, and you can edit any item manually at any time. The scan is a head start, not a cage.
Why can't I see the scan feature?
On a staff account, you need the Menu permission: without it there is no Menu page. On the free Wood plan, "Scan with AI" is there but opens an upgrade prompt, because AI scan comes with the paid plans (Charcoal and above).
